Privacy

The short version: GameWatch keeps what you put into it so the site works, shows no ads, sells nothing, and doesn't track you around the web. You can delete your account and everything in it from Settings.

Who runs GameWatch

GameWatch is run by Goated Studios LLC, which is responsible for the data described here.

What we store when you have an account

  • Your email address, username, display name and a scrambled (hashed) password, or the account id from Discord, Google or Twitch if you sign in with one.
  • What you add: library shelves, wishlist and price alerts, ratings, reviews, guides, lists, follows, likes and direct messages.
  • Alert settings: which alerts you want, the alerts we've sent you, and a Discord webhook link if you add one.
  • A private calendar link token, if you make one, so your calendar app can read your wishlist's release days.
  • Your PC's graphics card, processor, memory and system, if you save them on My PC, for "Can I run it". Without an account, or before you save, they stay in your browser only. Detecting the graphics card happens in your browser and sends nothing.
  • A sign-in cookie, so you stay signed in, and one with the currency you pick for prices (your account keeps it too, so alerts use it). Until you pick, the currency is guessed from your browser's language. There are no advertising or tracking cookies.

Steam

If you connect Steam in Settings, we read your public Steam profile through Steam's own public interfaces and store your SteamID, Steam name and avatar link. If you import your library, we also store, for each imported game, your hours played and when you last played it. A wishlist import copies the games into your GameWatch wishlist.

This lives in GameWatch's database, next to the rest of your account, on servers in the United States. Disconnecting Steam in Settings deletes your SteamID, name, avatar and the hours; deleting your account deletes everything. GameWatch isn't affiliated with or endorsed by Valve.

Emails

GameWatch only emails you when you ask it to, like a link to reset your password. Emails go out through Resend, which delivers them and so sees your email address and the message; its privacy policy covers that.

What others can see

Your profile, shelves, wishlist, ratings, reviews, guides, public lists, activity and Year in Games are public. Private lists, alerts, alert settings, your calendar link, your Discord webhook, your PC specs and direct messages are only visible to you (and messages to the people in them).

Other services

Game details and images come from IGDB, prices from CheapShark, Steam and GG.deals, exchange rates from the European Central Bank (through Frankfurter), giveaways from GamerPower and Epic, player tags, imports and PC requirements from Steam, retro achievement sets from RetroAchievements, walkthroughs from StrategyWiki (found through Wikidata), and news from the publishers' feeds. GameWatch asks these services for data on its own; it never sends them your account details. Pictures on the site load straight from IGDB, Steam, RetroAchievements, YouTube and store servers, which see your IP address like any website you visit. Store and deal links take you to those stores, which have their own privacy policies.

Videos play in YouTube's privacy-enhanced player when you open or preview them, and some gameplay and guide videos are found with the YouTube API Services. Watching them means agreeing to YouTube's Terms of Service, and Google handles what the player collects under the Google Privacy Policy. GameWatch keeps no data about what you watch.

Deleting your data

Go to Settings → Delete account. Your account and everything listed above is removed straight away. To remove only Steam data, use Disconnect in the Steam section; to stop a calendar or Discord feed, reset or remove it there too.
